Grand Illusions
The artist is the true illusionist of our world. The photographs, the paintings, the movies and the words they create can transport us anywhere if we give them the opportunity. What any art creates for us is an illusion of our world meant to highlight something in it we could not have noticed in precisely that way. The success of these illusions are half the purview of the artists themselves and half the perception of their audience. The true greatness of an illusion exists in the mind of the viewer, and is thus a very subjective judgment.
Here are the works I consider great. The illusions that most enraptured me. They are in no order save alphabetical and are judged by no consistent criteria. They are simply the works that mean the most to me.
